modern medieval

Meet Chateau de Guedelon, France’s newest Medieval castle…yes, that’s right, newest.  Begun in 1998, a French landowner wanted to recreate what was known about architecture and construction methods of the time.  Since its inception, it has become a resource of practical knowledge revealing a never before seen hands-on approach to medieval architecture…but in true French fashion the project was lacking “soul” and they created a fictitious owner with likes and dislikes.

Seigneur Guilbert is a middle-ranking feudal lord, who has been granted the right to build his castle because he sided with the crown during a baronial rebellion in 1226. — BBC News

The project is estimated to be complete in 2023, but may continue indefinitely as many Medieval castles were never truly finished.  On a personal note, I would love to know how much each laborer makes, surely they are paid a modern wage and if so were do I sign up???
